Accreditation - Nursery Industry Best Practice
The Australian nursery industry has implemented a nursery
accreditation scheme as a means of identifying those nurseries
which use Nursery Industry Best Practices in their production systems,
and which produce consistent quality products.
Best Practice is defined
as:
- good hygiene to minimise
pests and diseases;
- good plant management to
produce vigorous plants;
- professional operations and management to
provide quality products.
The Nursery Industry Accreditation Scheme of Australia
(NIASA) is managed by the Nursery Industry Association of Australia, working
with a group of industry and technical specialists.

Accredited businesses are audited at least once a
year by independent Technical Officers in accordance with "NIASA
Best Practice Guidelines".
Of approximately 10,000 nurseries throughout Australia,
Yuruga Nursery is one of only about 200 to be accredited
to Industry Best Practice standards.

Quality Assurance:
Yuruga Nursery is one of only a handful of nurseries
in Australia to maintain current Quality Assurance certification to the
international standard ISO:9001.
Yuruga's QA certification has been upgraded as of November
1999 to ISO:9001, to include the research and design carried out at Yuruga
in the development of mass propagation of new clonal varieties for forestry
and agriculture.
Yuruga's Quality Management System is audited twice yearly.
The original certified auditing body KPMG_QCI now operates under the well-known
company QAS. Yuruga's Quality Systems are endorsed by the Australian Horticultural
Corporation.
Yuruga's Quality Management System includes (among other
items):
- production procedures
- production planning
- contract management
- customer service
- sales and despatch
- staff training
and is linked to Nursery Industry Best Practices through the Accreditation
Scheme.
